Terms of Service

01Acceptance of terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Magnus Bøen ("we," "us," "our"), the developer of Becoming ("the app"). By downloading, accessing, or using Becoming, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

02Description of the app

Becoming is a personal transformation and habit-tracking app that helps you define an identity, set daily wins, and reflect through daily check-ins. Becoming is a self-improvement and journaling tool. It is not a medical device, and it does not provide medical, psychological, psychiatric, or therapeutic advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

03Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Becoming (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher — for example, 16 in parts of the European Economic Area). By using the app, you confirm that you meet this requirement. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you confirm you have permission from a parent or legal guardian to use the app.

04Your account

• You sign in using Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. You're responsible for maintaining the security of the account you use to sign in.
• You're responsible for all activity that happens under your account.
• You agree to provide accurate information and to use the app only for its intended personal, non-commercial purpose.
• You may delete your account at any time from within the app's settings, which permanently deletes your associated data as described in our Privacy Policy.

05Subscriptions & payment

Becoming offers optional premium subscriptions that unlock additional features. Current plans:

Prices are shown in the currency of your Apple ID or Google Play account and may vary by region; the amounts above are our reference pricing and may be adjusted over time. Any price change will apply to future billing periods only, and will be communicated in accordance with Apple's or Google's platform requirements.

Auto-renewal

• Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account upon confirming your purchase.
• Subscriptions automatically renew for the same length and price unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the price you agreed to.
• Any unused portion of a free trial period is forfeited once you purchase a subscription, where applicable.

Managing or cancelling your subscription

You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions) or your Google Play account settings (Google Play → Subscriptions), depending on where you subscribed. Cancelling stops future renewals but does not refund the current billing period.

Refunds

All payments are processed by Apple or Google, and refunds are governed by their respective refund policies, not by us directly. We're unable to issue refunds ourselves — please contact Apple Support or Google Play Support to request one.

06Your content

You retain ownership of the identity statements, reflections, check-ins, and other content you create in the app ("your content"). By using the app, you grant us a limited license to store and process your content solely for the purpose of operating the app's features for you. We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not sell or share it with third parties for their own purposes.

07Our intellectual property

The app itself — including its code, design, visual identity, name, logo, and the "Becoming" branding — is owned by Magnus Bøen and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms give you a personal, limited, non-transferable license to use the app; they do not transfer any ownership of the app itself to you. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or reverse-engineer any part of the app outside of what these Terms expressly allow.

08Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the app for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or access the app's source code or backend systems without authorization.
• Interfere with or disrupt the app's infrastructure, or attempt to bypass subscription or entitlement checks.
• Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the app.
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation.

09Termination

You may stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, engage in abusive or unlawful behavior, or if required to comply with law. Upon termination, the license granted to you to use the app ends, though your right to any subscription already paid for continues to be governed by Apple's or Google's terms until it lapses or is cancelled.

10Disclaimer of warranties

11Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Magnus Bøen shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the app — even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Where liability cannot be excluded under applicable law (including certain consumer-protection laws in Norway or the EEA), our liability is limited to the amount you paid for your subscription in the twelve months preceding the claim, or 500 NOK, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.

12Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Magnus Bøen from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of: your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the app, or your violation of any law or third-party right through your use of the app. This does not apply to claims arising from our own breach of these Terms or violation of law.

13General provisions

• Severability — if any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.
• Entire agreement — these Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the app, and supersede any prior agreements on the subject.
• No waiver — our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms at any time doesn't waive our right to enforce it later.
• Assignment — we may assign or transfer these Terms, for example as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our consent.
• Force majeure — we're not liable for any delay or failure to perform resulting from causes outside our reasonable control, including outages of third-party services we rely on (such as Supabase, Apple, Google, RevenueCat, or Expo), natural disasters, or acts of government.

14Apple App Store & Google Play terms

If you downloaded Becoming from the Apple App Store, the following additional terms apply and take precedence over any conflicting term in this section:

• These Terms are between you and us only, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
• Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support services for the app.
• In the event of any failure of the app to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the app to you; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app.
• Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, legal or regulatory compliance claims, or claims under consumer protection law.
• Apple is not responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, or discharge of any third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual property rights.
• You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo, and are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
• Apple, and its subsidiaries, are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance, Apple has the right to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

If you downloaded Becoming from Google Play, your use of the app is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service.

15Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to the app or applicable law. We'll notify you of any significant changes through the app. Continuing to use Becoming after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

16Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Norway, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. If you are a consumer resident in the European Economic Area, you may also be entitled to rely on mandatory consumer-protection provisions of the law of your country of residence. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the app shall first be attempted to be resolved informally by contacting us at the email below; if unresolved, disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Norway, except where mandatory consumer law provides otherwise.
